Film "Miracle". Out of the spacesuit
The story was based on the novel by the writer R. Zhd. Palacio, for whom this book made a successful debut. A chance meeting in a store with a girl who suffered from Treacher Collins syndrome forced the woman to write a touching true story about the fate of a child with this disease.
There are no ordinary people. We all deserve a round of applause at least once in our lives.
Quote from the movie "Miracle"
What can you tell about a person just by looking at their shoes? Perhaps you will answer that you rarely look at what shoes your interlocutor has. It is much more interesting to look a person in the eye, to look at his face. It is difficult to argue with this, but among us there are people who more often look down than up. And then only the shoes of passers-by fall into their field of vision.
“This boy is from a rich family, and this one is from a poor family. And this girl doesn’t have everything at home,”a ten-year-old boy named Auggie, looking at his shoes, talks about his classmates. He often looks down to avoid seeing fear, dislike, or ridicule.
The fact is that the baby was born with a rare genetic anomaly, which is expressed in maxillofacial deformity. In simple words, the disease took away the boy's face. Auggie Pullman underwent twenty-seven surgeries to give him at least some human appearance, not a terrifying mask.
Stephen Chbosky's film Miracle hit the big screen in 2017. The story was based on the novel by the writer R. Zhd. Palacio, for whom this book made a successful debut. A chance meeting in a store with a girl who suffered from Treacher Collins syndrome forced the woman to write a touching true story about the fate of a child with this disease.
According to many doctors, it is already a miracle that such babies manage to live. A disfigured face and displacement of organs very often does not give a person the opportunity to breathe, eat, see, talk on his own. However, physically handicapped people, like everyone else, want to live life to the fullest, and not hide from curious, frightened or judgmental glances and suffer from insults or ridicule. So in the life of little August, whom loving parents call simply Auggie, the moment came when the boy felt an irresistible desire to study at school and find friends.
Let's watch the film through the prism of knowledge of the training "System-vector psychology" and unravel each hero of the film, understand the motives of his behavior, internal desires and character.
Society didn't change him, but he changed society
Until the fifth grade, Auggie was forced to be homeschooled with his mom. The sound-visual woman was able to raise her son to be sensitive, kind and sympathetic. Having abandoned her scientific dissertation and the career of a child artist, she devoted many years to her boy, developing in him all his natural abilities, which were very similar to her own.
Interest in space, natural science and science are among the most frequent hobbies of people with a sound vector. Their unconscious desire for concentration requires silence and solitude. But the sound engineer can fully realize himself only among other people, leaving his shell into the world. It was to communicate with peers that little Auggie intuitively reached out when he first came to a regular school.
From the hero of "Star Wars" he has to become a simple boy. He is forced to take off his space helmet, which has always been so successful in hiding the flaws in his appearance. After all, most of all he does not like when people look at his ugly face and avert their eyes. It is very important for a child not to stand out from the crowd, to be like everyone else in order to feel a certain amount of security. But Auggie is very different from the rest of the guys, and he knows it. Every day, step by step, he goes through his difficult path from isolation, loneliness, complexes and ridicule to friendship, kindness, mutual understanding and support.
Of course, Oggy's classmates don't immediately accept. Until puberty, children are still in the process of developing their properties and acquiring a cultural superstructure that allows an adult to be tolerant towards people, accept their individual characteristics, and peacefully coexist in a society of people so dissimilar to each other. Children have not yet formed a cultural layer, which is why they so often bully those who are very different from them.
So at the school where Auggie came, initially the team unites against him. The guys ignore, laugh, humiliate. It is at school that the boy first meets hypocrisy, betrayal, and the struggle for leadership. He suffers, cries. It turns out that it is not at all easy to find real friends who will appreciate his inner world, his ability to be friends, and will not judge him only by his appearance.
But the boy's sincerity, charm and kindness are beginning to change the people around him. This is the real "miracle" that the title of the film says. The guys come to remorse and a sense of shame for the unfair treatment of Auggie. A desire to be friends and help awakens in them. A year later, Auggie becomes the most recognizable, in a good way, child at school. They accept him and begin to love him for who he is. Those around him see his optimism, curiosity, a wonderful sense of humor, a desire to help and support, and they themselves become infected with this amazing kindness.
Auggie was lucky with the teachers. These are people who are in their place, according to their vector purpose. The owners of the anal vector are teachers and mentors by nature, and the visual vector is necessary for the teacher to instill culture in children. A wise headmaster and an unusually judicious class teacher guide the children towards a tolerant attitude towards people with disabilities. “Choosing between righteousness and kindness, choose kindness”, “Your deeds are your monument” - these are the main mottos of the teachers of this school. There is a certainty that worthy guys will grow up within the walls of this school.
I just finished fifth grade like everyone else
This is felt most of all at the end of the film, when, at the end of the school year, the school principal presents the prize to the most worthy student. Auggie is invited to the stage. The whole audience applauds such an unusual and talented boy. It is not pity or a desire to give the boy anything to compensate for his external shortcomings. And the point is not that he is a good student and takes first places in competitions for scientific projects. "His quiet strength inspired many hearts by his actions," changed the attitude of classmates, taught them to sincerely sympathize and help. And this drop of humanity in each of them will surely grow into a big ocean of kindness, mutual support, love for neighbors.
Why watch such a movie?
The film "Miracle" can be attributed to the list of must-see family pictures. Touching, vital, positive and very kind. With his frankness, he will surely cause tears in every person with a visual vector.
The soundman will draw deep meaning for himself from the dialogues of the main characters. That is just a conversation with Auggie with her older sister Olivia. “You were born to stand out,” she tells her younger brother. “Each of us is unique, and this is the whole beauty and meaning. Thanks to our dissimilarity, we can do something good, something that no one has done before us and bring in a drop of our soul and uniqueness."
Via truly loves Auggie and her parents, but still feels a lack of attention from her mother. The girl recognizes her mother's talent to understand and see people, and she really wants Isabelle to look at her daughter more often, because the mother is always more busy with her son, who is not easy in this world. It is the lack of communication that brings the girl to the theater circle, where she finds new friends and, unexpectedly for herself, reveals the talent of the actress, the talent to involve the audience in the life of the heroes on the stage, to make them empathize, love and suffer along with the heroes of the play. This new hobby helps her not to be isolated on herself and her experiences, but to remain the same open and loving girl with whom she wants to communicate.
The anal viewer will see the perfect married couple in this film, played superbly by Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. An incredibly strong-willed, wise wife. Cheerful husband who loves his family. A strong emotional bond, mutual support and understanding help spouses cope with difficulties, trials and raise wonderful children.
At the training "System-vector psychology" we learn that it is the emotional connection between spouses that is the foundation, the glue that helps the family to survive for many years. Husband and wife continue to love each other over the years. Next to them, their children are happy as well, feeling security and safety.
A wonderful play of actors, an interesting directorial move, allowing you to look at the same situation from the side of different characters, hear their thoughts, understand the motives of their actions - all this complements a good film story. There is a feeling of presence, participation in events, and not just the position of an outside observer.
Many viewers who have already seen the film "Miracle" talk about the need for this film. The problem of society's attitude towards "inferior" children and children with special needs is shown here very clearly. In the process of watching, we realize that such babies will be born until the level of hostility between people decreases. Until society becomes more tolerant, kind and understanding. After all, such children force us to feel compassion and empathy for them and for people in general. This idea is very deeply understood from a psychological point of view.
Of course, the film teaches you not to judge people by their appearance. Indeed, often beautiful people immediately evoke disposition and sympathy, and ugly people - inexplicable hostility or fear. However, often in the process of communication, appearance fades into the background and interest in the person himself arises.
Auggie's concluding phrase at the end of the film: “If you want to get to know a person better, just look at him” - just speaks not of external judgment. These wise words of a ten-year-old boy carry the golden rule of good relationships between people - relatives, friends, colleagues.
It is important to learn to understand people, to see them from the inside. Systemic thinking helps to understand their psyche, their soul, which is hidden behind their appearance.
