When dreams are more interesting than life. Who is directing the nightly adventures of consciousness?
As Schopenhauer said, "sleep is the brother of death." But if this “brother” becomes so believable that it is as if you live in him, then something is clearly wrong in a person's life. What exactly is wrong? And why exactly are dreams such an alluring and saving haven for some of us?
When dreams are more interesting than life. Who is directing the nightly adventures of consciousness?
"… And he went to a daring escape that very night."
From the hit of the chanson
Those who read Shalamov and Solzhenitsyn may have noticed that both serving authors often mention prison dreams. Vivid, palpably bodily, full of experiences and so real that they take your breath away. Dreams, which, against the background of everyday routine and prison bullying, become not just an alternative reality, but practically a second life, into which a person escapes from a hateful and ugly boring existence in captivity. “But this is in prison,” you say, “it's scary, hopeless and painful there. And every day the same thing, without any light."
It is difficult to disagree with this. But too often it is the other way around, so that it can be argued that "living in a dream" is the lot only of outcasts deprived of connection with the world. Sufficiently successful people, whose life looks like a full cup, often run into dreams, stuck in the routine of everyday life and emotional calm. The topic of escaping reality is quite wide: someone transfers all their vital interest to the Internet, someone runs into extreme sports saturated with adrenaline, someone hits the booze … Each of these activities is due to specific circumstances in a person's life, as well as "the supporting structure »In the system of its vectors. Escape to dreams in this gallery of "hideouts" has a very special place. First, because the choice for a person is made by his subconscious, which cannot be fooled by advertising, persuasion, fashion, or auto-training. And secondly,it is dreams that are capable - albeit for a while, albeit deceptively - but almost completely make up for those shortcomings that push us to search for a ghostly alternative. Alternatives to this bastard reality, which grips us and does not give us what we crave with all our soul and with all our heart!
Gogol's version
"… He considered all these fairy tales to be a dream, But he felt the taste of carrion in his mouth."
Per Sivle "The Ballad of the Werewolf"
In the story "Terrible Revenge" NV Gogol reveals the secret of dreams - in any case, puts forward his own version. The sorcerer's daughter Katerina has amazing dreams. In them, she travels to various strange places at the behest of her father, who has dark magical powers. And it turns out that these are not fantasies of a sleeping mind, not games of the sleepy brain. These are real journeys that the soul of a sleeping girl makes at night. Actually, why not? If a person has a soul, then it must somehow manifest itself, in the end! Well, at least in a dream …
There was such a wonderful fairy tale by the Soviet writer Sergei Voronin "The Master Mischief", in which the author fantasized about what would happen if cowardly hare hearts were inserted instead of brave hearts for soldiers, and courageous hearts for hares were inserted into hares. It turned out that it is the heart that determines the puppet's consciousness and being. In this sense, the heart and soul are synonyms, since they mean a certain non-material, non-physical core, around which character, and worldview, and ultimately fate are formed. And at Yuri Burlan's training "System-Vector Psychology" all this is defined as a set and properties of vectors that "make life" to their owner.
In a fairy tale, soldiers became cowards, but hares with brave hearts were not afraid of anyone, challenging wolves, bears, and even elephants to battle … Well, what are not skin-visual women in a state of war, boldly challenging society and ready to take weapons and stand up in line with men?
My skin-visual friend Veronica said that at one time in her life there was a period of obsessive and amazingly real dreams. She did not dance in them, did not play novels, did not collect flowers in a forest glade. She … fought vampires! And this happened long before the vampire movie sagas became fashionable. The dreams were repeated, their plots developed; and vampires drove Veronica to the point that she woke up in the middle of the night from her own scream with a pounding heart.
To some extent, dreams reveal the true essence of a person, which, with some degree of liberty, can be called "soul". Everybody dreams. But vivid, emotional dreams, full of experiences and impressions, are one of the main gifts of the universe to the visual vector. This is one of the psychotypes that Yuri Burlan singles out at the training "System-vector psychology".
There is one more fundamental nuance. Yes, the visual vector provides a vivid, believable picture, catching a lively plot, emotional involvement in dream events. However, even waking up under a strong impression, the viewer most often forgets his dream, joining in the emotional background of the day. But if the dreamer, in addition to the visual one, also has a sound vector, the situation is different. The sound vector does not allow you to erase the nighttime adventures from your memory, forcing you to look for hidden subtext, some hints, hints, warnings in them. Sound gives a strong sense of the importance of sleep, its reality, the presence of some special meaning in it. For some, sleep is just a time of rest, a respite between periods of wakefulness. For a sound engineer, a dream is a small death, a short breath of eternity, a window to another world, a period of brief nothingness, immobilizing the body and bringing the soul closer to immortality …
As Schopenhauer said, "sleep is the brother of death." But if this “brother” becomes so believable that it is as if you live in him, then something is clearly wrong in a person's life.
What exactly is wrong? And why exactly are dreams such an alluring and saving haven for some of us? Let's try to figure it out with the help of the training "System-vector psychology" by Yuri Burlan.
Night orgasms
"Love, like a dream: Viagra + sleeping pills"
Pop joke
To begin with, I propose to remember about erotic dreams. And it's nice to talk, and the topic is exciting. Men may know her a little better, since almost all representatives of the stronger sex pass through youthful emissions in a dream. Hormonal activity, shamelessly requiring participation in the reproduction process, pushes from the inside, regardless of anything. And if in the daytime it is somehow possible to drown out the itching libido, then at night it breaks out, taking possession of a weak-willed pliable body, and sometimes a dormant consciousness.
What a young man! And with older men, nighttime orgasms happen. In situations of increased sexual tension, for example, or during a period of abstinence, or due to the inability to have sex with a specific object of desire - but you never know! Anything happens to women in a dream …
As a rule, regular sex life relieves of erotic experiences in a dream, because it removes or weakens the urgency of the issue.
And what does the dream have to do with reality? And the principle is the same. If a person does not receive what is inherent in him by nature, if his shortages remain unfulfilled, a search for sublimations that can fill the gap begins.
The only difference is that nocturnal erotica emerges as a response to specific shortages of lower vectors. That is, the reason for 99% lies in the field of pure physiology. But dreams saturated with emotions and semantic nuances, which give sensations comparable to real ones and every night more and more pull into their funnel, are an alarming signal about deep shortages of upper vectors (as we have already found out, sound and visual). Real life does not provide such a complete initiation of vectors, as a dream does, in which there are no restrictions. And if a dream becomes an obsession and a reality that a person lives to the detriment of real life, this is a sign that life does not fill his lack, does not saturate the needs of his upper vectors.
Most often, these are shortages that manifest themselves as insipid reality. Boring, gray, hopeless existence. Work-home-work-home-work-home … Ordinary life, in which nothing interesting happens from day to day. Both sound and sight live "from hand to mouth", without experiencing the emotions they need vital and finding neither joy, nor meaning, nor justification in everything.
Remember Veronica's story? It is noteworthy that she dreamed about vampires in a very specific period of her life. She moved to live in a European country and fought for two years to be accepted by this country. She learned the language, confirmed her education, made new connections, flirted and went on dates, lit up with hopes and fell into the maelstroms of despair … During these two years she did not really dream of anything except her hometown. Coming home in the evening, she fell on the bed as if killed. Exhausted by the next day of survival, she instantly surrendered herself to the "brother of death" who did not send her any dreams.
In the third year, life improved. She got a job at a bank as a specialist; she had a local boyfriend who met her regularly twice a week. On Saturdays, Veronica did manicures, stocked up with groceries and went to yoga, and on Sundays she read, attended the local church, or drank tea in a cafe on the next street. It would seem that everything has settled down, the streak of stress and anxiety is over and you can finally relax. However, Veronica somehow wilted and yearned. And then the nightmares began.
Vampires knocked on her seventh floor window and challenged her. She dreamed that a sword or a bow with arrows lay in bed next to her, and she was forced to take up arms to drive away the intruders … She shot, they in response clawed her with their terrible claws and strove to pull her out the window! The nightmare went on and on for almost a year. And it ended only when she met a new man. A man who for the second year now “makes her brain” (as she says) makes him freak out and makes him hysterical. Either he arranges dates for her on the roof of a skyscraper, then he makes fun of her makeup in front of friends, then he bursts into her office in bright red silk pants, shocking colleagues, then rides a motorcycle at night, then calls her names and “abandons” her, so that in two days reappear on the doorstep as if nothing had happened … Veronica's life gushes with a fountain. But she no longer dreams of battles with vampires.
Sleep or live
"… your bride is in that coffin!"
A. Pushkin "The Tale of the Dead Princess and the Seven Bogatyrs"
For the sound and visual vectors, dreams are a path beaten by the subconscious to fill in deficiencies. How dull and meaningless life can be, so rich and full of happiness dreams happen! Flights to the stars, communication with the dead, with a higher mind or other worlds, incredible transformations and time travel, crazy discoveries and secrets of great civilizations, all-consuming love, battles and exploits, magic and magic, changing history and juggling with the globe - in a dream, no nothing is impossible!
The catch is that colorful and "emotional" dreams are good only as a one-time, temporary measure to switch attention, to relieve psychological stress or emotional shock. With the constant shift of experiences and emotional emphasis from life to the visual-sound virtuality of sleep, a person smoothly but inevitably slides into a ghostly world, losing his sense of reality. Here the transferred priority is settled, and voila! - we have lost it - dreams are more important than reality.
What to do? To fill the shortages in life, getting joy and satisfaction from it.
By allowing ourselves to be drawn into the trap of dreams, we give them carte blanche; letting the looking glass occupy our imagination and draw us into emotional illusion. All this leads to the fact that life eventually becomes not just empty, but painful. And from here it is not far from really serious psychological problems … This is especially true for sound specialists, since the lack of sound most destructively affects the personality and the quality of human life.
When sleep turns from the rest necessary for the body into the only joy and outlet, this is a signal of the appropriate state of the sound-visual ligament. Sound and vision "go underground", sending a person an SOS signal, which can only be deciphered by understanding your essence, the true needs of your vectors, the desires of your soul, if you like. Recognizing and realizing your innate properties is the best way to return from life in a dream to real life.
