How to interview for your dream job. Part 1
According to our observations, people who enjoy the job are most successful in interviewing people. When a person is able to enjoy his job, he easily convinces the employer of this.
And if this is the first job and it is not yet clear whether the person will like it or not? Or have you already had a negative previous experience - nothing worked out at work?
Looking for a job? Wondering how to successfully pass an interview?
I work as HR Director for a 3200-strong company. Every month my colleagues and I employ from 100 to 150 employees in different cities of Russia. 10,000 interviews take place in the company annually.
As an experienced recruiter and system-vector psychologist, I can tell you how to pass an interview correctly. I can help you choose a job in which you will become a real professional, you will be able to maximize your potential.
How to get a job correctly and what the employer's decision depends on
There are standard guidelines for getting through an interview. Any recruiter will be able to tell you what questions executives ask in interviews and what answers they want to hear.
However, in practice, there are often situations when the candidate answered all the questions correctly, but was refused. Why? “Intuition”, “flair”, “sixth sense”, “chuyka” - this is how recruiters who are not familiar with the training “System-vector psychology” explain it.
The opposite situation also happens - according to formal criteria, the candidate is not suitable, but he is hired because he was able to win over the interviewer. A recruiter focuses primarily on his subjective impression of a person.
In our company, we use an objective methodology for evaluating candidates - the training "System-vector psychology" by Yuri Burlan. It allows for the first five minutes of a conversation to accurately identify the skills and shortcomings, talents and potential of each person. Even if it's a telephone interview.
In this article I will tell you how to behave in an interview in order to comply with all the external, formal aspects of employment. And, most importantly, how to correctly impress the person, on whose decision it depends whether they will hire you or not.
Work = love
According to our observations, people who enjoy the job are the most successful at interviewing people. When a person is able to enjoy his job, he easily convinces the employer of this.
And if this is the first job and it is not yet clear whether the person will like it or not? Or have you already had a negative previous experience - nothing worked out at work?
If you cannot say with certainty “I like this job”, it will be difficult for you in the interview. In this case, it is better to figure out first - what do you really want?
If the question of choice is no longer an issue, we will show you how to get an interview to get a dream job.
How to get a job correctly
There are only three things that will lead you to success:
- competent preparation for a job interview;
- understanding of what to say in the interview;
- your inner state at the stage of job search.
Let's consider each item in detail.
Received an invitation for an interview? Need to prepare
1. Correct resume
If you are writing a resume for the first time, take any template on the Internet as a basis and fill in your details. At the same time, think about what kind of information the employer expects from you, and what will be superfluous.
We live in the cutaneous phase of the development of society, where the value is time saving, speed, efficiency, focus on results.
Save your manager's time - write only the important facts about yourself:
- study the requirements for the position and indicate which of the required skills and abilities you possess. If you don't know something, just write - “I don’t own CorelDRAW”. Express your willingness to acquire these skills - "ready to learn in the near future" (if this is true, of course).
- list your achievements in previous work (study). Only report results. Not the processes in which you participated, but what you managed to do. Not "did" but "did". Even the most insignificant results "did not have time to accomplish the feat, but learned to work with difficult clients" is much more interesting to the employer than the description "worked on a project, learned to work in the program, prepared reports." It is best to indicate the results in numbers: “increased the turnover of the outlet by 60% over the previous year”, “reduced paper consumption for office needs in half”, “trained three employees to work in the 1C program”. This will instill confidence in the employer that you are focused on results, and not just "go to work."
Another point - a well-written resume fits on one page.
2. How to dress for a job interview
Wear whatever you feel comfortable in! Skin vector candidates who are fit and slender prefer business suits, tight-fitting shirts, and tight shoes. For people with an anal vector, the desire to copy an unusual image is often the reason for failure. Instead of focusing on the interview, delving into the questions and giving precise answers to them, the candidate dreams of only one thing - to quickly get rid of the "shell" of tight clothes and put on his favorite dressing gown and slippers.
When a recruiter is scheduling a job interview for you, ask the question - what dress code is adopted in the company. Perhaps jeans and your favorite plaid shirt are fine. Even the strictest office dress code will allow you to opt for comfortable trousers, soft moccasins and a wide shirt.
3. No amulets at the interview
In my practice, there were cases when people refused to meet with the employer because of their tendency to superstition. A forgotten amulet at home that brings good luck, a black cat crossing the road, a bad day according to the horoscope - all these reasons automatically deprived them of their chances of employment. After all, tomorrow they also may not come to a meeting with a client or partner. This behavior is inherent in a person with a visual vector in a state of fear. If this is about you, read the article that will help get rid of false attitudes that interfere with life.
4. Mom should stay at home
How is the interview going? Only individually. One-on-one with a recruiter or manager.
There are young people with an anal vector whose natural connection with their mother remains very close even after growing up. Of course, a loved one is very worried, trying to support his child in finding a job. When a mother not only gives advice on how to get a job properly, but also comes with her son for an interview, this is perceived by the employer as infantilism, lack of independence. This negates the chances of getting a job.
Can mom stay in the car or walk nearby in the park? Better to let him wait for you at home with pies. The meeting can drag on, you will feel nervous and unable to focus on how to behave in your interview with an employer.
This rule also applies to mothers with children, married couples and all other relatives from the support group - the candidate must come to the interview alone.
How to behave in an interview
What questions do managers ask when interviewing for a job? How to answer them correctly?
1. Questions about the suitability of the position
At the interview, the employer wants to understand whether your knowledge, skills and abilities correspond to those required in this job. Questions will be directed towards identifying this correspondence. If you do not know something, but are able to master, the employer may decide in your favor. But only if you feel your desire and disposition for this activity.
Larisa was interviewed for the position of HR specialist. I had no previous experience - I worked as a specialist in a travel company. She said right off the bat - I can’t do anything, but I really want to work in this position. I fall asleep with the Labor Code, I have studied it completely, I am ready to master the regulations.
Thanks to the system-vector approach, we understood that a person with an anal-visual ligament of vectors is really capable of this work. After a short training, the company received not only a competent personnel officer, but also a specialist who is not indifferent to people, who wants to help each employee. Larisa worked for the company for 11 years before retiring.
How to successfully pass an interview? Focus on the interlocutor, listen carefully and answer only the question posed - clearly and truthfully.
It happens that people with an anal vector find it difficult to quickly switch from one question to another. If necessary, take time to think "give me a couple of minutes, I will formulate my answer." Try not to sideline, not to reflect on extraneous topics. Keep the question in mind and answer it.
2. Questions about past experiences
Help the employer understand if you are result oriented.
The manager wants to know what he will get by hiring you. Help him make the right choice. Are you sure you will be the best cashier? So answer “over the three years spent on maternity leave, I have acquired stress resistance, the ability to do several things at the same time and not lose heart even in the most difficult situations. I am sure these skills will allow me to quickly serve customers and be friendly even with the most difficult clients. " Compare with another answer: "For the last three years I have been at home with my child." Which of these women do you think will be hired?
3. Other questions
You need to be sincere in interviews. How to answer the employer's questions correctly? Answer from the heart. Employers often use tricks where the question sounds completely detached from the topic it is actually testing. The desire to embellish your dignity can play against you. Often questions have a veracity check. If you don't pass it, your chances of getting a job are slim. Questions "have you ever been late for work?" or "have you ever told a lie?" it is not punctuality or responsibility that is measured, but your honesty. It is clear that a person with 20 years of work experience had some time delays. And few of us have ever concealed anything.
4. Now your questions
Feel free to ask them! Getting the interview right is not as important as making sure the job is right for you. Will you be able to maximize your abilities by doing this work.
Will you move up the career ladder by realizing your desire to organize yourself and others in the skin vector? Will they give you the opportunity to become a mentor to inexperienced colleagues and realize your desire to teach newbies in the anal vector? Will you be able to take care of other people by creating warm emotional relationships with them in the visual vector? Or focus - in sound? When you understand what is important to you, you can clarify this at an interview and not make a mistake in choosing a job.
We looked at the outside of how to interview and how to prepare for it.
The most important part remains - the psychological one. It is she who will explain why candidates with no experience are successfully interviewed and get hired, and people with an ideal track record may be refused. What determines the inner state of a person and how to make a good impression on the employer, read in the second part.
Part 2. How to pass an interview: mental attitude is important
