Living souls of Nicholas - the Mythist

Nikolai Gogol was called a hoaxer - an inventor, and legends, myths and fantasies of all stripes were his companions all his life and even after it - until now. What is Viy alone - the first Soviet real horror film …

… Then he suddenly dreamed that his wife was not a person at all, but some kind of woolen matter; that in Mogilev he came to a merchant's shop.

“What matter do you order? - says the merchant. - You take wives, this is the most fashionable matter! Very solid! Everybody is now sewing their coats out of it."

The merchant measures and cuts his wife. Ivan Fyodorovich takes it under his arm, goes to the Jew, the tailor.

“No,” says the Jew, “this is bad matter! Nobody sews a

frock coat out of it …"

Ivan Fyodorovich woke up in fear and unconsciousness. Cold sweat poured

from him like hail …

Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka

The devil knows what such a thing is seen sometimes in a dream …

Vasily Gogol-Yanovsky himself said that in his youth in a dream he saw his future wife Maria. And a few days later, in reality, in a cradle … He waited for her to grow up, and when she turned 14, he married her.

Their first two children were stillborn. And the couple in awe and fear awaited the appearance of the third. Maria, extremely religious and devout, pinned her hopes only on Saint Nicholas the Pleasant. And when, finally, a live and healthy boy was born in the Gogol-Yanovsky family, she named him in honor of the miracle worker - Nikolai.

Nikosha grew up in an atmosphere of religiosity and "fear of God", felt awe of the icons, was frightened by the dense forest around their estate … And, of course, he listened to the terrible mysterious tales of his mother …

These were bewitchingly scary and funny tales from Little Russian folklore. This is how the world gets a frightened visitor - a person whose visual vector may not develop into the highest manifestation - love, remaining only at the level of development of “fear”. Therefore, children with a visual vector are prohibited from scary and ugly fairy tales. Unless you want, of course, to grow a tantrum and a dummy.

As a child, Gogol wrote poetry. The mother showed great concern for the religious upbringing of her son, who, however, was influenced not so much by the ritual side of Christianity, as by his prophecy about the Last Judgment and the idea of the afterlife. Typical manifestations of visual fears in children. And also distortion of the sound perception of the Creator through visual images.

But Vasily Gogol himself was a writer and often, traveling to the fields with his son, trained the boy's imagination: they came up with stories, uncomplicated plots. Later, Nikolai participated in an amateur theater, was very fond of painting and, of course, read. Therefore, the visual vector of Nikolai Gogol still managed to develop.

Years later, he himself began to write strange, sometimes scary, sometimes funny, fairy tales. The systemic eye understands this: if you get scared yourself, you scare the other. That there is only one "Viy" - the first Soviet real horror film.

Sound-visual transformations

There is no death in the literary world, and the dead also interfere in our affairs and act with us as if they were alive.

Nikolay Gogol

Rises lingeringly

There's a dead man in a white shroud.

The bones are dusty it is important

He wipes it off, well done!

The visual vector brings to life not only teddy bears and bunnies. Vision can make such a character as Nevsky Prospect an influential person, pimp and reveler …

… give bad character to the Collegiate Assessor's Nose …

… to wrap a little man's new life in an ordinary coat …

What is a hoax? This is a visual creation of an illusion not only for yourself, but for everyone. Convince everyone, and yourself in the first place, that which does not really exist and will never exist. And show it with visual emotionality in pictures.

Illusions, inventions are the spectator's favorite delicacy. Be it even with sound. Sound only makes this meal colder, not to the touch … Inside. Not heated, irreparably looped. Unbearably obsessed. A stunning depth of inexpressible attitude to the invisible, the imperceptible. Formless and the only possible. Sound is the only one who knows the value of the Word.

… So what about dreams?

As you know, the state of sleep is the work of the unconscious. Mental in its purest form. It is our unconscious that is the sound vector. And the sound states of Nikolai Gogol became his stories, poems and fairy tales. Their heroes carried the heavy burden of these dreams, splashed out, on their shoulders …

The writer's sight and sound, so to speak, worked in collaboration. Vision revived, and the sound endowed the characters with unexpected properties and qualities. And the story took on mysterious turns.

And then the Little Man gains and loses not just a new overcoat. He gains and loses a lot. The best, ringing, chic. It's like a vague, random attempt to take your life …

To sacrifice everything, to limit yourself in everything for months only for one single purpose is skin ambition and fanatical sound.

“… Another two or three months of a little starvation - and Akaky Akakievich had exactly about eighty rubles … Akaky Akakievich used to put aside every ruble spent in a small box, locked with a key, with a hole cut in the lid for throwing there money…"

Skin prudence in stress or in an undeveloped state develops into greed, stinginess and outright stinginess. Many of Gogol's heroes suffer from this. Later - in the image of the landowner Plyushkin - this craving for restriction and prohibition will reach a minus climax, right up to the complete disintegration of the personality.

In his youth, Gogol often changed jobs when he was still trying to get a job in the civil service. Very soon he was disappointed with his service, its meaninglessness and worthless, empty environment. His sound vector, which was looking for meaning, still haunted, all moaned: "It is murderous to sit in collegiate assessors, while the Lord showed me the way to the near land and prepared His divine providence and providences for the good and good of the world!.." (from a letter Gogol to his mother).

The visual fears received in childhood never go unnoticed. When stressed, they give the opposite of compassion and empathy to speculation on the feelings of others. They forced Gogol to invent stories in letters to his mother about some fatal ladies of the heart and imaginary diseases … The purpose of these messages was only to beg for more and more money to cover debts …

He lived very poorly, they said that he had only one suitcase of things. He was constantly at a loss of strength, very thin. He fasted, prayed, slept little. Yes, while he always lied … Without sin, without malicious intent. Invented, composed. Any everyday story came out as such an entertaining plot. He claimed that the famous "Viy" was copied almost literally from the Ukrainian tradition. But no one has yet found even a hint of confirmation of this …

“Hanging or drowning seemed to me like some kind of medicine and relief,” he said from unbearable depression.

Meanwhile, back to the Overcoat. Note that Bashmachkin wore his old coat to the last. Until it turned into rags … He would never allow himself a new one, but it was already impossible to go outside - it was already rags. That is, the skin restriction was so severe that there was nowhere else to go.

Lacking systemic knowledge, Gogol perfectly showed a small leather worker who limits himself in everything to the extreme, but does not think about career advancement … Due to his small and stingy skin, whose temperament is not even enough to strive for career growth, Bashmachkin is not ambitious and not ambitious. He owes his stay in his service only to his diligence to the extreme (anal vector), he is an exemplary worker, but if it were not for the Overcoat, we would never have known about him …

An overcoat is not just a lost warm coat, sewn due to the impending cold weather instead of a dilapidated one. The overcoat is a symbol. This is a dream, this is another life. This is an ideal, this is, if you will … a woman for whose sake it is worth limiting oneself in everything, so that later on giving her something very dear, much more dear than a daily pressing need …

“… From that time on, as if his very existence became somehow more complete, as if he got married, as if some other person was present with him, as if he was not alone, but some pleasant friend of life agreed with him walk the road of life together - and this friend was none other than the same overcoat on thick cotton wool, on a strong lining without wear …"

A strange at first glance analogy - the Overcoat and the Woman … But not for systemic thinking! A man who has a very modest right to bite - a failed skinner with a low libido - suddenly realizes that this "woman" can sharply push him to the heights that he never dreamed of in his dreams as a petty clerk …

And he finally releases his dermal essence out, enjoying it immensely. Although not realizing it.

“… Akaki Akakievich thought, thought and decided that it would be necessary to reduce ordinary costs, although, at least for one year: to banish the use of tea in the evenings, not to light candles in the evenings, and if something needs to be done, go to the room to the hostess and work by her candle; walking the streets, step as lightly and carefully as possible, on stones and slabs, almost on tiptoe, so as not to wear out the soles quickly; As rarely as possible, give the laundry to the washerwoman to wash the laundry, and so that it does not curl up, every time you come home, throw it off and remain in only one demicotone dressing gown, very old and sparing even by the time itself.

It must be told the truth that at first it was somewhat difficult for him to get used to such restrictions, but then he somehow got used to it and went smoothly;

even he was completely accustomed to starving in the evenings; but on the other hand, he ate spiritually, carrying in his thoughts the eternal idea of a future greatcoat …"

This is really quite that … skin-sound. No, Gogol, of course, would not mind making Akaki Akakievich a skin-sound fanatic of the idea of a new overcoat … But, of course, this character did not have sound. Nikolai Gogol possessed it.

Mysterious Karla, or Someone in Gray

… Mysterious Karl - was the nickname of Nikolai Gogol among his comrades in his student years. Strange, but there was no clear explanation of where such a nickname came from … It seems that it was somehow very closed with some secret key. No, of course, he talked a lot, had connections, but no one understood him until the end: some door was boarded up tightly … Or rather - invisible to the naked eye …

But there was also something else, besides the sight scalded by childhood fears, coming out of them with the help of compassion for their own heroes or sisters … besides the mystical direction of sound …

… this Something has formed a good nuclear mixture inside one thin, praying, fasting body, not knowing where to get away from this explosive mixture. A tremendous tension of the conscious and unconscious, lasting eternity …

Among the eight measures, there is one special one. Which hides the obvious in such a way that it is impossible to understand what and who is in front of you - like a writer as a writer … An inventor, but what about without it? But something is wrong with him …

The olfactory measure is responsible for survival at all costs. Any (any!) Individual gives off a smell. According to which it is ranked, loved, eaten … The olfactory person does not smell (like money - his favorite element). And only there is always a feeling of something hidden, unsolved.

How can an ordinary person come up with a fantasy that one morning Nose became not a nose, but a state councilor?.. As if the nose has a life of its own, an opinion and a uniform … He asks Major Kovalev not to interfere in his affairs, for he, the nose, makes plans for a successful marriage …

That's how he lived.

When sight and smell live in one person, physical blindness can occur. But only if his visual vector is developed to the highest degree: love. It may sound like a low-grade pun, but the writer's vision was not developed to the point of being blind.

Maybe that's why he was never able to establish his personal life - his relationship with women was only a spiritual connection …

Inside him, two crushing forces fought: one of them - for immortality, the second - for eternal life …

The manuscripts are burned. The word of genius is incorruptible

… He said that working on this second volume had exhausted him to the limit. That she seems to be eating it from the inside. The death of a close friend, the shaken peace of mind, as well as the feeling of his own sinfulness absorbed with his mother's milk - all this undermined his sonic powers. In search of some kind of support, he consulted with his spiritual father-priest about the fate of the poem "Dead Souls" and, in general, creative fate …

The priest advised him to leave work for now, for the writer was already in a strong decline. And in early February, Gogol, who was fasting at that time, threw into the flames not only several years of his life … It looked like a shameful weakness for the sound, surrender. The positions were surrendered. In order to somehow stay in this life.

The sense of smell is against such torments of one's own body, against spiritual searches and attempts to penetrate the unconscious. You don't need anything - you just need to survive. But it’s impossible to have such a trio inside - screaming in every way in different voices in your ear - and still not go crazy. Or not die, finally, exploding completely …

And so it happened. A short time after the burning of Dead Souls, Gogol died.

Epilogue

The funny thing is that he succeeded in both, and the third: the eternal life of his word, and the endless mystery of his images. And what are the different legends about his burial, twisted by frightened spectators. Either he was buried alive, then there was no skull in the grave, then the skull was, but turned to the side.

Although … All this is quite in the spirit of Gogol himself - he always liked such stories …
