Janis Joplin - Rocket Girl
Janice Joplin - the greatest "white" blues performer and rock diva of the hippie generation, "Pearl", as her friends and colleagues called her, left at the age of 27, having died from a drug overdose. Paradoxically, in her entire career she had only one commercially successful hit - "Me and Bobby McGee", recorded a few days before her death. Why is Janice Joplin still more interested in personality than her song rank on the Billboard chart?
“I didn't know her, but I know her. Because when you listen to it, you seem to leave your body and surrender to the movement. She is pure energy"
Where is music born? In the depths of the city outskirts, godforsaken places? In your parents' garage after lessons or the strict walls of music schools? In the whirlpool of human dramas, the noise of sewage and cigarette smoke … Words, thoughts, sounds, rhythms, mental wounds … Like an inspiration on a piece of paper or at dawn in a studio.
Music is born in a person as a sensation, a desire to express it in sound. When this desire is too close, the world gets its own composer, guitarist or a whole musical group.
There are many great performers in the history of music, but sometimes it seems that God Himself endows one of all with the gift of leaving an indelible imprint on millions of souls. Possessing an inexplicable attraction, they stand out even in their midst, cover like an avalanche and burn not only in creativity, but also in life. They often leave early, leaving more questions than answers.

In the system-vector psychology of Yuri Burlan there is such a concept as the urethral-sound ligament. As a feature of the human psyche, this is a rare combination of vectors. The synthesis of these two forces gives rise to not just talented people, but mental giants in terms of the power of their influence on others.
Wild child
People can control the body, voice, technology and even stock exchange, but they cannot control a person with a urethral vector. Janice Lin Joplin could not be run by her parents, school, or the entire conservative society of the oil town of Port Arthur, where she was born on January 19, 1943.
She was not liked at school. She dressed as she wanted, did not obey, was carried on exclusively with the guys and stood out with a dangerous ability for those times - to say what you think.
In the early 1960s, important social changes were taking place in America. The focus was on issues of segregation and racism, while the background was a hippie movement calling for "Make love, not war!" The battle for civil rights for blacks was gaining momentum, but this was not the case everywhere. In the south, where the future legend was from, intolerance and racial discrimination were considered the norm.
Once saying, "I don't hate niggas," Janice became the target of hate and harassment, earning the nickname "pig." With all her urethral fearlessness, she did not remain in debt, but she felt that she had no place in this society. Later, she sarcastically sadly, recalling life in Port Arthur, calling herself "a stranger among the stupid."
To others, a person with a urethral vector seems to be a rocket without a control panel. The innate responsibility of the leader places him at the head of the mental hierarchy. It exists for others, and not for itself, which means that it is not limited by cultural and internal frameworks. A rebellious spirit, justice and courage in every moment of life are the main features of his nature.
Smart beyond her years, mature out of shape
With her sister and brother, Janice grew up in an intellectual and friendly atmosphere. To some extent parents also did not correspond to the classical model resident of Port Arthur, "hating niggas." Instead of love for country and rodeo, his father secretly took a great interest in philosophy, loved classical music and instilled in children the ideas of self-development. The mother loved Broadway musicals and often sang them with her daughters while cleaning.
Small and smiling, Janice was drawn to questions of knowledge and religion. She studied well, went to church herself, drew, read, and at first did not cause any concern to those around her. The problems started later.
Urethral women have a different task than urethral men. They are not leaders, but in difficult conditions, possessing the same properties, they manifest themselves in a male role. Feeling humiliated, they make up for the lack by imitating a boy or, in other words, a leader with a pack. The first "pack" of Janice were local guys. With them, she went to Louisiana, drank, got into fights and got her first sexual experience.
On a wire from the universe
In combination with the urethral sound vector, the only one that does not lend itself to the influence of its "crazy neighbor from below." In man, these vectors, which are so different in nature, do not mix. From the outside it seems that he is thrown into two extreme opposites. In Yuri Burlan's system-vector psychology, this is called phases, where the passion and love of life of the urethral vector is abruptly replaced by detachment and withdrawal into sound.
The sound vector sets the direction of the inner search - the desire to reveal the root cause of all that exists. The written, spoken word, abstract images are the source of meanings for the sound engineer. Since childhood, he is attracted to knowledge - from observing the night sky to reading philosophical treatises. Complicating the implementation, the sound engineer seeks to find the meaning of life, to understand: why did he come to this world?
The urethral sounder is like a direct connection with the Universe - pure energy, pure sound, transformed into an idea or creativity. The peculiarity of this bundle creates phenomena in creativity and gives birth to great personalities.
Janice did not study musical notation, but perceived music in a unique way, sensing minor nuances in the rhythmic variability of the blues. It was impossible not to notice Joplin. After finishing school and getting to university, she immediately appeared on the cover of a local newspaper under the headline: "She dares to be different!"
After dropping out of school, she packed her bags and went with her friends in a passing car to San Francisco. This was not her first trip. At the time, the city was the epicenter of the hippie counterculture. The whole "restless" and young part of America came here. Those who wanted to create, play music, fight for freedom, have fun and be part of progressive ideas - headed for this city.
A friend and manager of the new group Big Brother & the Holding Company called Janice to sing. This changed her direction. In the city, the group quickly became popular, but outside no one knew about it yet. The invitation to perform at the Monterey Festival was a watershed event and Janis Joplin's first appearance on the big stage.
Monterey Pop: the birth of a legend
What is Monterey Pop Festival? It is a cultural pivot of 1967 and a starting point in the careers of many musicians. An event of this magnitude was held for the first time. Interest in a new musical formation has gathered a mixture of producers, hippies and future stars of psychedelic, folk and blues-rock directions. The festival was almost conservative. There were flowers in my hair, but so far that one big LSD party was not planned. It will be later, on the first year of love - the famous Woodstock, but for now …
On the second day of the festival, Janice Joplin took the stage and performed Ball and Chain, a great interpretation of Big Mam Thornton's blues song. The energy emanating from the singer was shocking in the literal sense. The audience held their breath. She seemed to be squeezing every emotion to the limit. In rhythm and vibration, she spewed screams, stuttered and drowned in love experiences. "Crazy and sincere" Joplin did not leave a single stone. It was a triumph that turned her into a superstar.
The urethral feels realization when people are attracted to him. Consolidating around him, he gives everyone a sense of security as a kind of mental balance. We are involuntarily drawn to such a person. The urethral singer emasculates herself to the point of exhaustion, feeling full in this way. When you look at Janice, you see a stream of energy bursting outward.
Sex, drugs and loneliness
The theme of loneliness in Janis Joplin's life was noticed not only by biographers. Behind the harsh and rough nature, there was an almost childish vulnerability. People noted that at times the singer looked scared and insecure. She asked journalists if she performed well, as if she was trying to convince them and herself of the genius of her voice. This behavior was discouraging. She violated the "laws of the genre", where it is customary to hide real emotions and not ask such questions.
Within its flock, the urethral vector does not divide people into friends and foes either by status or by skin color. She was simple, honest and open to anyone. She communicated equally with the host of the famous live show, and with the half-asleep bum on the street. Own for everyone and lonely for herself.
Under the influence of the sound and visual vector, music was for her a creation of feelings, where she felt a connection with God. Love, sex and singing were all part of her performances. The audience bathed in visual love and received it with all the urethral passion. It was a different love - not dreamy, airy, but seething and sexy.
“I love music because it is made of feelings. Sex is the closest thing to compare, but it is more than sex. I feel dumbfounded by happiness. I want to do it over and over again, until happiness dries up”(Janis Joplin).
The tireless rocker courage in the intervals between the sound phases did not allow to fully reveal and realize the entire volume of the visual vector. On stage, she generously shared her feelings, was filled with emotions and felt happy, and when leaving, she suffered from loneliness.
Janice surrounded herself with anyone and anything, had sex with everyone, men and women, drank liters of her beloved Southern Comfort and drowned in heroin dope. Urethral people have no inhibitions. Addicted to any kind, they cannot stop. No brakes. For this reason, they often die early.
“She had a brutal appetite for life, pleasure - for everything in general. When it came to food, she wanted everyone in the room to get as much of the best as possible. If it was about fun, she should have had a lot of fun. She had an appetite for drugs, and the money and opportunities allowed her to have unlimited amounts of them”(Sam Andrew, guitarist).
After her first adult trip to San Francisco, she nearly died of starvation and overdose. The sister said that Janice arrived detached, quit drugs and for a couple of years led a reserved lifestyle, periodically performing on the stage of the city of Austin.
Take another little piece of my heart now, baby
When she returned to San Francisco for the second time, success awaited her and a place in the history of the greatest performers of all time. The time allotted for this purpose, she lived at the peak of life and courage.
On October 4, 1970, there was silence in the room of the Landmark Motor Hotel, no one answered the calls, did not respond to knocks on the door. Paul Rothschild, the famous producer who worked on the new Pearl album, was never able to complete this album live with her. According to one version, the death occurred as a result of an overdose of heroin, which she acquired by an absurd coincidence from an unknown dealer.
As often happens, rock legends leave naturally, but always suddenly. It hurts people and creates a lot of guesses about conspiracy theories, suicide, unhappy love, or they simply refuse to believe that their idol is no more.
Once in the company of friends, accompanied by the hum of general fun and strong drinks, someone will turn on Piece of my heart at full volume, and the evening will immediately "add power." Or, sitting on the windowsill, one broken heart will momentarily stick together from the piercing sounds of Maybe. Music unites, music inspires, music heals and becomes a support in difficult times. Joplin, Lennon, Morrison, Hendrix are iconic figures of their generation. Their music will live forever.
