The flock can be united on two levels. One of them is hatred. We humans can still unite in hatred against another person; even if we hate each other, but the third, we hate more, we will unite against him - "against whom are you friends?" Hatred unites us, smooths out internal contradictions.
There is a special person who is hated by the whole flock, he concentrates all the hostility on himself. This is the chief's olfactory advisor, "goat's face." We hate him so much with the whole flock that for a while it removes our internal contradictions and unites the flock. But hatred grows, and at some point we can attack and destroy it, and without the smell, the flock will not survive.
Therefore, when the level of hostility becomes too high and it must be removed, another is sacrificed to the flock - the most useless, weakest, skin-visual boy. We all sit down at the table together and gnaw this boy with great pleasure. We ate, took off our hostility - and already we have good feelings for each other. How nice it is for all brothers to sit together at the same table!..
It has always been a ritual act. The act of sacrifice is allowed only to the olfactory person. We do not even distribute a mammoth from the bay, only according to the law of hierarchy. No one will just grab the boy and drag him into the bushes. By ritual, yes.

When we eat the skin-visual boy and remove the dislike, we maintain the integrity of the pack. Hate and pleasure. Emptiness, lack and filling. So life would go on and on. But cannibalism was limited to culture.
However, our dislike has not gone away. The degree of complexity has increased. To this day, we see this mechanism - "devouring" one by the others to remove the general hostility in both children and adult groups. When, for example, one boy is beaten in the head with schoolbags after school. And when they score together, then they go afterwards in joyful excitement …
